Glutathione is a marvelous and natural antioxidant. Researchers have found that it is an important part of a healthy diet. Why can you shop for it today? Because it is easily found in the produce section of your local market. Just head over to the vegetable section and find the broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, or kale. That is where you will find it. It is a natural compound in what we call cruciferous vegetables. It really is a combination of three amino acids including glycine, glutamic acid, and cysteine. It has the ability to filter toxic chemicals and drugs from our bodies, and that is one of the most important health benefit it gives us.

It is interesting to learn that experiments have shown that the amount of glutathione present in laboratory animals was actually reduced 70 to 80 percent within four hours after acetaminophen was given to the animals. The compound actually works somewhat like a filter helping the body to cleanse the liver and heal the arteries. It is said to also help to make your immune system stronger because it works as part of the complex system that helps to maintain healthy cell function and energy production.

In other controlled experiments, animals that were given glutathione lived about 40 percent longer than animals that were not given any. Most people view this health benefit as a positive possibility for living a longer life. The addition of healthy foods to your diet is not considered harmful, and is certainly an easy thing to change in your life style. Eating healthy to live longer is viewed by many as the only way to go.

Foods that contain Alpha Lipoic Acid promote the synthesis of glutathione in your body. So if you also eat spinach, tomatoes, peas, rice bran, and broccoli, you can improve your ability to protect your body from illness and disease. For most people, it means adding more ingredients to a salad or having mixed vegetables instead of one kind.

When people are deficient in glutathione, then can tend to become ill. There is evidence to show that most diseases follow times when we lack the compound in our bodies. Nutritionists are saying that common diseases might be avoided by maintaining an adequate intake of the antioxidant. Adding glutathione rich vegetables as a simple addition to our meals that can help to keep us well.

Many patients having chemotherapy treatments have found that the usual side effects from treatment were reduced by adding more cruciferous vegetables to their meals. The additional vegetables provided relief from the usual toll that the harsh chemicals take on the body. Anyone caring for a chemotherapy patient may take steps to add glutathion containing vegetables whenever possible to their meals. Even finely ground or juiced for a thin soup might be comforting if the patient is not yet up to eating much.

If you really just cannot stand the thought of eating Brussels sprouts, then choose a different vegetable. You can also eat avocados, red beets, rosemary, whey protein powder, and green beans because these are high in glutathione too. And if all else fails, you can buy tablets from your local health food store. The compound is natural, so barring food allergies; you cannot really hurt yourself by eating foods to increase your glutathion levels. Do take steps to add this healthy anti-oxidant to your daily routine.

Vitalicous is Delicious

I was poking around on the internet a few weeks ago and found a review for a deep chocolate muffin by Vitalicious that folks are just raving about. I am a certified chocoholic, so anything that is chocolate and good for you just doesn’t seem quite right. To begin with, I was wary of the name Vitalicious (anything with Vitamins in the name is probably nasty, right?).

However, my curiosity got the best of me and I convinced my husband to brave road construction and go 30 miles into St. Louis to a store that actually carried these Deep Chocolate Vitamuffins. And boy, was it worth it.

These muffins are not a bit vitaminy (is that a word?). They have enough chocolate chips chunks to satisfy my chocolate addition. Plus, the muffin itself is very moist and filling (6 grams of fiber in a 2 oz. muffin). I absolutely love, love, love them.

The downer is availability. They are hard to find in stores. You can visit the Vitalicious site to see where they are sold near you here. Some Whole Foods carry them, but in the St. Louis area, they were hard to find. I think the best way to get them (after you initially try them) is online and in bulk. They freeze well, so buying them in bulk is not a big deal.

If you are on Weight Watchers, or are just looking for a healthy alternative to Hostess Cupcakes, I would definitely pick up a pack of these and give them a try. Vitamuffins are only 100 calories for a 2 oz. serving, high in fiber, low in sodium, low in fat, contain no cholesterol and are baked with whole wheat. Not to mention the 15 vitamins and minerals!

What are you waiting for? Treat yourself. Vitalicious is Delicious!
